Nosferatu 2024 de Robert Eggers no es un remake, sino una resurrección, una película que rinde homenaje a sus orígenes a la vez que crea su propio espacio en el terror moderno, la película comienza con una joven Ellen Hutter que sufre horribles terrores nocturnos, luego la película avanza en el tiempo y resulta que Ellen vive felizmente casada con Thomas pero sigue llena de visiones perturbadoras. Thomas es agente inmobiliario y su jefe le encarga que se ocupe de los asuntos del misterioso conde Orlok un hombre que quiere comprar una propiedad en su ciudad alemana, es entonces cuando las visiones de Ellen se hacen más fuertes a medida que sigue a Thomas en su viaje al remoto castillo de Orlok en Transilvania, lo que demuestra que ella y el Conde tienen algún vínculo psíquico que se forjó años antes, cuando ella lo despertó desprevenidamente de su sueño eterno rezando por un ángel de la guarda. Bill Skarsgard hace el papel del Conde Orlok y su transformación es impresionante ya que este Conde Orlok parece genuinamente inhumano y antiguo, no es el vampiro común del cine moderno sino una criatura esquelética en descomposición con un extraño tono de voz que te hará temblar. Lily Rose Depp hace su mejor actuación hasta ahora como Ellen, una criatura vulnerable, aterrorizada que es perseguida por el mal que guarda encerrado en su mente, las escenas de posesión, en particular las contorsiones y convulsiones aparentemente se hicieron sin ayuda de efectos visuales y esto es algo impresionante. Nicholas Hoult hace el papel de Thomas que aunque sea un escéptico al principio los gestos tensos que muestra hacen que su cambio de escéptico a creyente sea auténtico. El profesor Von Franz es interpretado por Willem Dafoe también hace una gran actuación.

Lo que más sorprendente de Nosferatu es que el horror nunca se ve comprometido en sus imágenes oscuras o en la profundidad de sus temas, aunque hay algunos momnetos de humor negro inesperado, la parte visual es tan buena con tonos oscuros, sepia y blanco y negro que parecen sacadas de la película original, pero a su vez es moderna, da la sensación de que la cámara está poseída por la malvada presencia de Orlok, la película tiene bastante terror, sin embargo, lo que me confundió fue que la película trata muchos temas a la vez como la enfermedad mental, sexualidad, religión y colapso social y no da tiempo a que se desarrolle ninguno de esos temas, el ritmo también es raro, algunas escenas parecías rápidas a pesar de que la película es muy larga y otras eran más lentas de lo debido.

En el final de Nosferatu, Ellen se sacrifica para destruir a Orlok pero con una profundidad psicológica que no estaba presente en las versiones anteriores, Ellen se da cuenta de que tiene un vínculo especial con el vampiro y decide usarse a sí misma para atraerlo sabiendo que Orlok no se resistirá a ella. Estando en su habitación se despide de Thomas y espera al conde Orlok que tiene una obsesión por Ellen, y cuando llega ella deja que se alimente de ella mientras lo distrae hasta el amanecer. La película original retrató el sacrificio de Ellen como un acto completamente noble pero la versión de Eggers tiene una razón más compleja, el encuentro final tiene un trasfondo erótico que insinúa que Ellen se ha sentido repelida y atraída por la oscuridad de Orlok. Cuando amanece, Orlok se da cuenta demasiado tarde de que ha sido atrapado y se desintegra, Thomas regresa y encuentra a Ellen muerta que dio su vida para derrotar al monstruo. Este final es interesante porque cambia el carácter de Ellen de víctima pasiva a un personaje con voluntad que elige sacrificarse, también queda la duda de si Ellen realmente destruyó el mal o si será tomado por otro recipiente, lo que significa que la oscuridad nunca puede ser eliminada por completo, solo puede ser contenida temporalmente, me pareció que esta ambigüedad del final es algo bastante convincente, de hecho me dejó con muchas preguntas sobre la naturaleza del mal y si proviene de nuestro interior o de fuerzas externas.

En general, Nosferatu es un gran logro en el cine de terror gótico, respeta la obra original de F. W. Murnau pero añadiendo algo nuevo al mito de los vampiros, además que las actuaciones son buenísimas en todos los aspectos, las imágenes son impresionantes y la atmósfera de terror se siente en todo momento, creo que Nosferatu es una película imperdible para los fanáticos del terror y los cinéfilos, es una nueva forma de hacer que la misma historia nos asuste y nos sorprenda un siglo después, el director superó los límites, yo le doy un 7.8/10.

Lily Rose Depp gives her best performance to date as Ellen, a vulnerable, terrified creature who is haunted by the evil she keeps locked up in her mind. The scenes of possession, in particular the contortions and convulsions, were apparently done without the aid of visual effects, and this is impressive. What is most surprising about Nosferatu is that the horror is never compromised in its dark images or in the depth of its themes, although there are some moments of unexpected black humor, the visual part is so good with dark tones, sepia and black and white that seem to be taken from the original film, but at the same time it is modern, it gives the feeling that the camera is possessed by the evil presence of Orlok, the film has a lot of horror, however, what confused me was that the film deals with many themes at once such as mental illness, sexuality, religion and social collapse and there is no time for any of these themes to develop, the rhythm is also strange, some scenes seemed fast even though the film is very long and others were slower than they should be.

In the end of Nosferatu, Ellen sacrifices herself to destroy Orlok but with a psychological depth that was not present in previous versions, Ellen realizes that she has a special bond with the vampire and decides to use herself to attract him knowing that Orlok will not resist her.
