The Ghost Ships of 1812 ….

On our walk along the Shimmering Coast this morning we thought we saw two giant War ships approaching out of the fog.

But then they seemed to vanish.

Our Guide told us the tale of the Ghost Ships of 1812….

Lake Ontario is home to numerous chilling tales of ghost ships and phantom vessels, many of which stem from its history of treacherous weather, wartime tragedies, and unexplained disappearances.

The Vanishing Fleet of the War of 1812 during the War of 1812, two American armed schooners—the USS Scourge and USS Hamilton—were caught in a sudden, violent squall and sank rapidly, drowning over 50 sailors.

Sailors have long shared the tale that, on cold and dark nights, both ghost ships emerge from thick fog, complete with phantom crews standing motionless on the decks, before shuddering and disappearing below the waves.
