What's up, Otaku friends, I hope you're having an awesome day! This time, I'm bringing you a new review of an anime you all recommended a ton, and I finally got to watch it... let's talk about Dorohedoro. Honestly, I don't even know where to begin... Imagine someone tossed a bunch of violence, dark humor, super grotesque stuff, and surprisingly, a whole lot of heart into a blender... and boom!, they just hit puree without a second thought. This anime does whatever the hell it wants, and that's why I'm fascinated by it. Let me paint you a picture of this madness. Think of a world split in two. On one side, we have 'The Hole,' and trust me, the name is a perfect fit. It's a horrible place, an industrial dump—gray, always rainy, and it feels like it's constantly falling apart. The people who live there... well, they just survive, always in fear of the sorcerers from the other world showing up. These magicians live in their own dimension, one that's much more colorful, almost like a fantasy world, and their power comes from a black smoke they create themselves. With that magic, they can do all sorts of crazy things, like transforming people into... well, other things.

The point is, these guys can open portals to The Hole whenever they feel like it and use the poor people there as their lab rats for practice. I mean, it's a brutal mess, and the series throws you right into it from the very beginning. This brings us to our protagonist, Caiman... and when I say protagonist, I mean a guy with a reptile head. Yep, you heard that right, a giant lizard head. The poor guy can't remember a thing, not who he was or how he ended up like this. So, he's on this super obsessive mission to find the sorcerer who did this to him. And how does he do it? Well, this is where it gets even crazier. He literally bites down on sorcerers' heads, and inside his mouth, there's some mysterious guy in his throat who tells him, 'Yeah, that's him,' or 'Nope, not him.' When the answer is no, which it almost always is, things get... let's just say, ugly. It's an incredibly original and super, super brutal way to drive the story forward and keep you hooked on the mystery.

Hola amigos Otakus, espero que estén super bien el día de hoy, está vez les traigo un nueva reseña, de un anime que me estuvieron recomendando mucho, y por fin pude verlo.. hablemos de Dorohedoro, es que, de verdad, no sé ni por dónde empezar.. imagínense que alguien metió en una licuadora un montón de violencia, humor negro, cosas súper grotescas y, sorpresivamente, un montón de corazón.. y ¡pum!, le dio a licuar sin miedo, este anime hace lo que se le da la gana, y por eso me fascina. Déjenme les pinto el cuadro de esta locura, piensen en un mundo dividido en dos. Por un lado, tenemos ‘The Hole’ o ‘El Agujero’, y créanme que el nombre le queda como anillo al dedo, es un lugar horrible, un basurero industrial, gris, siempre lluvioso, que se siente como si se estuviera cayendo a pedazos.. la gente que vive ahí pues… nomás sobrevive, siempre con el miedo de que aparezcan los del otro mundo: los hechiceros. Estos magos viven en su propia dimensión, una mucho más colorida, casi de fantasía, y su poder viene de un humo negro que ellos mismos crean, con esa magia pueden hacer cualquier locura, como transformar gente en… bueno, en otras cosas.

El punto es que estos tipos pueden abrir portales a The Hole cuando se les da la gana y usan a la pobre gente de ahí como sus ratas de laboratorio para practicar.. o sea, es un desmadre brutal, y la serie te avienta ahí de lleno desde el principio, esto nos lleva a nuestro prota, Caimán.. cuando digo prota, me refiero a un tipo con cabeza de reptil. Sí, así como lo oyen, una cabeza de lagarto gigante, el pobre no se acuerda de nada, ni de quién era ni de cómo terminó así, así que anda en una misión súper obsesiva para encontrar al hechicero que le hizo esto. ¿Y cómo lo busca? Pues, aquí es donde se pone más loco todavía, literalmente, le muerde la cabeza a los hechiceros, la mete en su boca, y adentro, en su garganta, hay como un tipo misterioso que le dice ‘sí, es él’ o ‘no, no es él’.. cuando la respuesta es no, que es casi siempre, las cosas se ponen… digamos que feas, es una forma increíblemente original, y súper, súper brutal de mover la historia y mantenerte enganchado con el misterio.

And look, with a premise like that, you’d logically think the characters would just be a bunch of dull thugs. But this is where Dorohedoro truly blew my mind. Every single character in this series—and I mean EVERYONE—is, to put it plainly, completely messed up in the head. They're all violent, dangerous people, and you never know if they're good or bad. I mean, we're talking about serial killers, mob bosses, mad scientists... a little bit of everything. Our supposed 'protagonists,' Caiman and his best friend Nikaido, are introduced to us right off the bat just taking out a couple of guys. There are no heroes or villains here; everyone has their own moral mess and will do whatever it takes to get what they want. But here's the craziest part: they are, no lie, some of the most charismatic and even adorable characters I've seen in a very long time. Despite being super violent, there's a camaraderie and loyalty among them that's just unbelievable.

You see it clearly with Caiman and Nikaido, but also—and this is the most surprising part—with the 'bad guys' side. The series dedicates a ton of time to En, a mega-powerful sorcerer obsessed with mushrooms, and his entire 'family' of hitmen. We see them in their daily lives, just hanging out and chatting, and it's impossible not to grow fond of them and like them. Suddenly, you're rooting for the supposed antagonists, and that creates a fascinating experience; it completely shatters your expectations of who you should be supporting. The story itself is just as dynamic.

The pacing is insane; it never lets up and keeps you glued to the screen from start to finish. The plot is always evolving with brilliant twists that can completely change how you see the story and the characters. Little things you might have seen and thought 'eh, whatever' suddenly—boom!—come back and become super important later on. It's one of those stories that, yes, asks for your attention, but rewards you by piecing together this super complex and unpredictable puzzle, full of chaos and mystery... okay, now let's talk about the art style, because I know this is a big deal for some.

Y a ver, con una premisa así, lo lógico sería pensar que los personajes van a ser puros matones sin chiste, pero aquí es donde Dorohedoro de verdad me voló la cabeza, es que todos, pero TODOS los personajes de esta serie están, para que me entiendan, bien jodidos de la cabeza.. son pura gente violenta, peligrosa y que no sabes si son buenos o malos. O sea, estamos hablando de asesinos en serie, jefes de la mafia, científicos locos… de todo un poco, nuestros supuestos “protagonistas”, Caimán y su mejor amiga Nikaido, de entrada nos los presentan echándose a un par de tipos así nomás, aquí no hay héroes ni villanos, cada quien trae su propio desmadre moral y van a hacer lo que sea para conseguir lo que quieren. Pero aquí viene lo más loco: son, sin mentirles, de los personajes más carismáticos y hasta adorables que he visto en muchísimo tiempo.. a pesar de que son súper violentos, hay una camaradería y una lealtad entre ellos que no te la crees.

Lo ves clarito con Caimán y Nikaido, pero también, y esto es lo más sorprendente, con el bando de los “malos”.. la serie le da un montón de tiempo a En, que es un hechicero mega poderoso obsesionado con los hongos, y a toda su “familia” de sicarios. Los vemos en su día a día, cotorreando entre ellos, y es imposible que no te encariñes y te caigan bien, de repente estas animando a los que se supone que son los antagonistas, y eso crea una experiencia bien fascinante, te rompe por completo los esquemas de a quién deberías apoyar, la historia como tal es igual de dinámica.

El ritmo es una locura, nunca baja y te tiene pegado a la pantalla de inicio a fin, la trama siempre está evolucionando con unos giros de tuerca geniales que pueden cambiar por completo cómo ves la historia y a los personajes, cositas que a lo mejor viste y dijiste “ah, equis”, de repente ¡pum!, regresan y son súper importantes más adelante. Es una de esas historias que sí, te pide que le pongas atención, pero te recompensa armando este rompecabezas súper complejo e impredecible, lleno de caos y misterio.. bueno, ahora sí, hablemos del estilo de arte, porque sé que para algunos esto es un tema.

Okay, so the anime uses a mix of traditional 2D animation with 3D models for the characters. And I'll be honest, when I heard it was a 3D anime, I panicked a little. We've all seen how badly that can turn out. Yes, sometimes, especially at the beginning, the movements feel a bit stiff, kind of 'robotic.' But—and this is a HUGE but—the team behind this series did an amazing job. The backgrounds and settings are absolutely insane; they're like beautiful, detailed paintings that perfectly capture that grimy, decadent, cyberpunk-fantasy vibe of the world. They really put in the effort to make the 3D models blend with the 2D backgrounds, and as the series progresses, you can truly see them improving, getting a better handle on the technique.

There are some scenes, like a close-up on a menacing character's face or a super-fluid fight sequence later on, that look incredible and show you they knew exactly what they were doing. It's a mix of everything, yes, but the sheer beauty of the world and seeing it improve over time completely won me over. And the music! Oh, my God! The soundtrack is as varied and brilliant as the series itself. It jumps from heavy metal to a super delicate violin and electronic beats, and every track feels like it fits perfectly, right where it needs to be.

A ver, el anime usa una mezcla de animación 2D, la de siempre, con modelos 3D para los personajes.. y voy a serles sincero, cuando escuché que era un anime en 3D, la verdad es que me paniqueé un poco.. todos hemos visto lo feo que puede salir eso, sí, a veces, sobre todo al principio, los movimientos se sienten un poquito tiesos, medio "robóticos", pero, y este es un GRAN pero, el equipo que hizo esta serie lo hizo genial, los fondos y los escenarios son una maldita locura; son como unas pinturas hermosas, llenas de detalles, que capturan a la perfección esa vibra ciberpunk-fantasía, toda sucia y decadente del mundo. De verdad le echaron ganas para que los modelos 3D encajaran con los fondos 2D, y conforme avanza la serie, de verdad se nota cómo van mejorando, cómo le agarran más la onda a la técnica.. hay algunas escenas, como un close-up a la cara de un personaje viéndose amenazante o una secuencia de pelea súper fluida más adelante, que se ven increíbles y te demuestran que ya sabían perfecto lo que estaban haciendo.

Es una mezcla de todo, sí, pero la pura belleza del mundo y ver cómo mejora con el tiempo a mí me convenció por completo.. y la música! ¡Uf, por Dios! La banda sonora es tan variada y tan brillante como la mismísima serie, te brinca de heavy metal a un violín súper delicado y a ritmos electrónicos, y cada canción se siente que queda perfecta, justo donde tiene que estar.

The music adds an incredible touch to every scene, whether it's a full-throttle action sequence, a moment of pure terror, or one of those daily life scenes that make you burst out laughing. The opening is instantly iconic: instead of the typical anime montage, it's just Nikaido cooking gyozas, and that alone tells you everything you need to know about the series' unique vibe and what it cares about. And it has multiple endings! Getting a new closing song and animation every couple of episodes was such a great touch, a gift no one expected. I know there were a ton of manga fans who were super worried about this adaptation. The manga is a cult classic, one of those that people call 'unadaptable' because of its particular, grimy art style and its massive story. Even though the anime moves at a mile a minute and skips some small details and character moments to fit everything into 12 episodes, I have to say, they totally nailed it. This is a more than worthy adaptation that completely captures the spirit of the original work. You can see the love and care they put into this project from a mile away.

So, my final verdict? I'm giving Dorohedoro a solid 9/10. The sometimes clunky CGI is the only thing keeping it from a perfect 10, but everything else—the world, the mystery, the unforgettable characters, the pacing, the music—is just on another level. It's something fresh, creative, and unapologetic. I went in expecting something weird and came out with one of my new favorite series. It surprised me at every turn, made me laugh, and left me desperate, begging for a second season. Seriously, if you're looking for something that breaks the mold, something that will leave you saying 'what the hell did I just watch?' in the best way possible, you have to watch Dorohedoro. La música le da un toque increíble a cada escena, ya sea en una secuencia de acción a todo lo que da, en un momento de puro terror, o en una de esas escenas de la vida diaria que te sacan una carcajada, el opening es icónico al instante: en lugar del típico montaje de anime, es nomás Nikaido cocinando gyozas, y con eso ya te dice todo lo que necesitas saber sobre la vibra tan única y lo que le importa a esta serie, y tiene varios endings! Que te pongan una canción y una animación de cierre nueva cada par de episodios fue un detallazo, un regalo que nadie se esperaba, yo sé que había un montón de fans del manga que estaban super preocupados con esta adaptación. El manga es un clásico de culto, de esos que la gente dice que es “imposible de adaptar” por su estilo de dibujo tan particular, tan sucio, y por lo masiva que es su historia, aunque el anime va a mil por hora y se come algunos detallitos y momentos de los personajes para que todo quepa en 12 capítulos, les tengo que decir que se la rifaron, esta es una adaptación más que digna que clava por completo el espíritu de la obra original. Se nota a leguas el amor y el cuidado que le metieron a este proyecto.

Entonces, ¿mi veredicto final? A Dorohedoro yo le doy un 9/10 bien sólido, el CGI que a veces se siente medio tosco es lo único que le impide ser un 10 perfecto, pero todo lo demás —el mundo, el misterio, los personajes inolvidables, el ritmo, la música— es simplemente otro nivel.. es algo fresco, creativo y sin pelos en la lengua, entré esperando algo raro y salí con una de mis nuevas series favoritas, me sorprendió a cada rato, me hizo reír y me dejó desesperado, rogando por una segunda temporada. En serio, si andan buscando algo que rompa el molde, algo que los deje diciendo “¿pero qué carajos acabo de ver?” de la mejor forma posible, tienen que ver Dorohedoro.. no van a encontrar nada que se le parezca.. y bueno, hasta aquí la reseña de hoy, cuidense mucho!
