The Egyptian Neteru: Gods of the Sky and Beyond

Gods of the Sky and Beyond

In Ancient Egypt, the gods were known as Neteru. Deities like Ra, Thoth, Osiris, and Isis didn’t just reside in the sky — they traveled through it. Ra crossed the heavens daily in his solar boat, while Thoth was often associated with the moon and wisdom, much like Enki.

Egyptian mythology speaks of a golden age known as Zep Tepi, "the First Time," when the gods walked among men and ruled Egypt. According to temple inscriptions, this era was characterized by a state of cosmic balance, advanced knowledge, and direct interaction between humans and divine beings.

Could this be a different cultural memory of the same period the Sumerians remembered as the age of the Anunnaki? Shared Themes: Kingship, Knowledge, and the Stars

Both the Sumerian and Egyptian civilizations claim that the gods gave kingship. The Sumerians wrote of divine tablets of destiny, while Egyptians had the pharaoh, a living god on Earth, an intermediary between humans and the divine.

Star knowledge is another powerful link. The Sumerians tracked the heavens with unmatched precision. So did the Egyptians, aligning their temples and pyramids to constellations like Orion and Sirius. The gods, in both cases, were deeply tied to the stars. In many myths, they came from the stars. Is it a coincidence that both civilizations emerged suddenly with advanced knowledge of agriculture, mathematics, astronomy, and writing — as if they had received it from somewhere, or someone?

Could They Be the Same?

It’s possible that as humanity spread and languages evolved, the original encounters with these sky beings were remembered differently by different cultures. The Anunnaki may have become the Neteru. Enki may be Thoth, the wise creator. Enlil may be mirrored in figures like Set or even Osiris, depending on the role.

Modern researchers and ancient alien theorists suggest that these weren’t gods at all, but extraterrestrials whose technology was interpreted as divine power. If we entertain this theory, then it makes sense that early civilizations would all speak of similar beings arriving from the skies, giving knowledge, and ruling as kings.

What we call mythology may be fractured memory — history is rewritten in metaphor.
